The Royal Family - A Royal Priesthood (notes)

The Royal Family - A Royal Priesthood

I Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation; [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Jesus came to establish the Kingdom of God and He left a group of people who would keep the Kingdom going until His return.

According to Peter we are:

  1. A chosen generation.
  2. A Royal Priesthood.
  3. A holy nation.
  4. A peculiar people.

What A Priest Does:

  • Presents people to God through intercession.
  • Presents God to people through speaking God’s Word.

What A King Does

  • Rules over a kingdom.
  • Rules by decrees.
  • Sets a good example for the people.
  • Serves the people under them.

We Have A Dual Role

To rule in the spiritual realm that controls the physical realm.

To exercise our role as representatives of the Kingdom of Heaven on the earth as priests-presenting people to God and God to people.

The Kingdom of God

In the New Testament is a recurring theme.

In the early church was a common message by the leaders of the church.

And the church are closely related, the church is not the Kingdom of God but it is an extension of Kingdom of God.

Was the central message of John the Baptist and of Jesus Christ and Paul the Apostle.

Verses On The Kingdom

Luke 1:33 And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His Kingdom there shall be no end. (KJV)

  • The Kingdom of God is eternal.

Luke 4:43 And He said unto them, I must preach the Kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. (KJV)

  • The message of the Kingdom was the passion of Jesus Christ.

Luke 8:1 And it came to pass afterward, that He went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the Kingdom of God: and the twelve were with Him. (KJV)

  • Preaching the message of the Kingdom was serious with Jesus.

Luke 10:9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The Kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. (KJV)

  • Healing is a sign that the Kingdom of God was or is present.

Luke 11:2 And He said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in Heaven, so in earth. (KJV)

  • When we pray we are to ask the Kingdom of God to come, visit this planet, come into my life, into my home, my body, Heaven invade this church, invade this city, this nation. Push back evil.

Luke 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the Kingdom of God is come upon you. (KJV)

  • Driving out demons is a sign that the Kingdom of God is come upon us.

  • Seeking the Kingdom as a priority brings God into our daily needs and He will meet our physical needs.

Luke 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. (KJV)

  • God desires with pleasure to give us the Kingdom. We are part of The Royal Family.

Luke 18:16 But Jesus called them unto Him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the Kingdom of God. (KJV)

  • To embrace the Kingdom of God we must be pure as little children. Just take a child and see how pure their faith, their humility, their love, etc.

Luke 22:29 And I appoint unto you a Kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me. (KJV)

  • Jesus appointed His Kingdom to His followers (us).

Acts 1:3 To whom also He shewed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. (KJV)

  • After Jesus rose from the dead, He taught His followers issues that had to do with the Kingdom of God.

Acts 19:8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the Kingdom of God.

  • Paul’s message was the Kingdom of God.
  • He even disputed with the Jews for three months about the Kingdom.
  • Paul leads many into the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
  • He probably taught them about the Kingdom for the Jews to see the results in Paul’s ministry.
  • Paul laid hands on the people that heard him and the Holy Spirit fell on them and they spoke in tongues and even prophesied.

The Message of the early church was the Kingdom of God. Our message must also be the Kingdom of God. Jesus came to establish the Kingdom and that the church continue not only the message but applying the power of the Kingdom by preaching the Gospel and healing the sick and casting out demons.
