Kingdom Secrets (notes)

The Kingdom – Secrets

The Sermon on the Mount is God taking the Law and expanding & applying it to our lives today

The Kingdom

Operates by principles and laws.

Can be grasped by people who desire to understand the principles and laws of the Kingdom.

Jesus taught on the secrets of the Kingdom of heaven.

Jesus Was

The most powerful teacher that ever taught.

The greatest philosopher of all time.

The deepest thinker that ever thought.

The Commandments

Exodus 20:3-17

  1. Don’t have any gods before me
  2. Don’t make any idols, don’t bow down to them
  3. Don’t take my name in vain
  4. Keep the seventh day-unto me
  5. Honor your father & mother
  6. Don’t murder
  7. Don’t commit adultery
  8. Don’t steal
  9. Don’t give false testimony
  10. Don’t covet anyone or anything your neighbor has

The Commandments were fulfilled in Jesus Christ and Jesus expounded on them in the Sermon on the Mount and in other teachings, especially the teachings about the Kingdom.

When I look at the teachings of Jesus I am looking at the very heart and mind of God Almighty.

Kingdom Secrets: Matthew 13:10

The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

He replied, “The knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.”

Jesus Said:

“Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.”

Revelation

Will only be given to those who are hungry for it. Only those who really desire to Know God intimately will be given the secrets of the Kingdom.

Will not be given to those who do not cherish it. If you are not really hungry for God you will loose what you have.

A parable is short simple story intended to illustrate a moral or religious lesson.

Jesus had more than a religious lesson to convey.

Jesus had secrets of the Kingdom that would allow people to see His power and reign manifested in their daily lives.

Jesus & John

Preached; “Repent for the Kingdom of heaven is near.” When the King came His Kingdom came with Him. Change must take place in us if we are going to embrace the Kingdom. If we are not willing to change our world view, we will miss the message and power of the Kingdom.

Teaching on the Kingdom

Always precedes the demonstration of the Kingdom through signs and wonders. This is why we need revelation of the secrets of the Kingdom.

We first see it then we can understand it and then apply it.

What do we need to grasp the secrets of the Kingdom?

1. Revelation

2. Wisdom

Ephesians 1:17-23

Jesus Addressed:

Sins of the heart in the Sermon on the Mount such as anger, lust, adultery, divorce, oaths, vengeance, and dealing with enemies.

The heart of the law.

Kingdom Path (notes)

The Kingdom

Pathway to Holiness

The Beatitudes

All have to do with relationships. Our relationship with God and each other

The Beatitudes

  • The poor in spirit - relationship with God and with each other.
  • Those who mourn - relationship with God
  • The meek - relationship with God and with each other
  • The hungry for God - relationship with God
  • The merciful - relationship with God & people
  • The pure in heart - relationship with God The peace makers
  • The peace makers - relationship with people
  • The persecuted - relationship with people

The Kingdom

  • Of heaven is based on relationships: our relationship with God and with each other. The Ten Commandments deal with man’s relationship with God and with his fellow man.

The Commandments

Exodus 20:3-17

    1. Don’t have any gods before me
    2. Don’t make any idols, don’t bow down to them
    3. Don’t take my name in vain
    4. Keep the seventh day-unto me
    5. Honor your father & mother
    6. Don’t murder
    7. Don’t commit adultery
    8. Don’t steal
    9. Don’t give false testimony
    10. Don’t covet anyone or anything your neighbor has

Jesus Said

  • Anger: Matthew 5:21-22

"You're familiar with the command to the ancients, 'Do not murder.' I'm telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. Carelessly call a brother 'idiot!' and you just might find yourself hauled into court. Thoughtlessly yell 'stupid!' at a sister and you are on the brink of hellfire. The simple moral fact is that words kill.”

New Living Translation Matthew 5:22

“But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.”

Matthew 5:17

“Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to fulfill them.”

God’s Kingdom

Is based on relationships.

We can’t get angry and just allow whatever comes into our minds to come out of our mouth. We must be careful what we say when we are hurt with someone.

In God’s Kingdom

We can’t take our relationships for granted. We must fill our hearts with the love of God in our relationship with him and when we are hurt we will not allow angry, mean words to come out and hurt people.

Who Will Be Greatest

In the Kingdom of Heaven?

When we become as little children

(Humble as a child)

We can not even enter the kingdom unless we become as children.

Matthew 18:1-4

Whom God Honors

  • In the Kingdom of Heaven?
  • Those who treat others with love and respect.
  • Those who don’t retaliate when hurt but who forgive and demonstrate the love of God.
  • You Will Be Hurt
  • Especially by those closest to you in this life
  • Be forgiving
  • Be humble
  • Be loving
  • Be Christ-like

The Kingdom (notes)

The Kingdom: “Holiness”

Jesus, said Repent (change) for The Kingdom of heaven was at hand

The Kingdom:

Although it is spiritual and invisible, it governs the material and the visible

The Kingdom of heaven:

  •  Operates in a specific manner and has a constitution, a system of fundamental principles and virtues.

Holiness:

  • is a major key to walking in the power of the Kingdom.
  • does not mean legalism.
  • means being Christ-likeness.
  • Is not adherence to a code of behavior
  • Does not mean don’t do this and don’t do that

In The American Church Christians are committing adultery, fornication and other evils and don’t even think twice of it.

  • Church holiness is not mentioned very much. If it is mentioned, it isn’t the Bible definition of holiness.

Jesus Said:

We are the salt of the earth. Salt was not only used to flavor food but to preserve food. We are the light of the world; let your light shine!

Jesus Said:

Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to fulfill them.”

Matthew 5:17

Jesus Said:

“I assure you, until heaven and earth disappear, even the smallest detail of God’s law will remain until its purpose is achieved. So if you break the smallest commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be least in the kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus Said:

“But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be great in the kingdom of heaven. But I warn you  unless you obey God better than the teachers of the religious law and the Pharisees do, you can’t enter the kingdom of heaven at all!”

Who Will Be Greatest In the Kingdom of Heaven?

• When we become as little children (humble as a child). We can not even enter the  kingdom unless thus we become.

Matthew 18:1-4

Who Will Be Great In the Kingdom of Heaven?

• Whoever practices and teaches what Jesus taught & commanded

Jesus Is:

• Coming for a glorious church without spot or wrinkle

• Calling us out or darkness

• Never compromised and tells us to follow his example
