Acts 3 - The Name of Jesus (notes)

Acts 3 - The Name of Jesus

What Caused The Caused The Early Church To Grow So Rapidly?

There are several keys:

  1. The Word of God.
  2. The Holy Spirit.
  3. The Name of Jesus.

Today We Will Look At The Name Of Jesus

  • The name of Jesus has been one of the most misunderstood truths in the church.
  • The name of Jesus is one of the most powerful revelations we have to defeat evil in the world, to heal the sick, to drive out devils and to set the captives free.

The Name of Jesus

  • Is the key to a powerful prayer life. Whatever we bind on earth is bound in Heaven and whatever we loose on earth is loosed in Heaven as we use the name of Jesus in exercising our authority.
  • Is the key in overcoming principalities and powers and all the power of the devil.
  • Is the key to seeing miracles and healing.

Peter & John

  • Were going the temple at the hour of prayer.
  • A man lame from his mother’s womb was laid daily at the gate of the temple. The name of the gate was “Beautiful”.
  • He would ask for alms from the people who were going to the temple.
  • He saw Peter and John going to the temple and so he asked them for alms.
  • Peter told him to look at us.

Principles To Miracles

  1. Expectation: He expected to get something from Peter & John.
  2. Knowing what we have.
  3. The name of Jesus.
  4. Action.

The Key Was What Peter Did Have:

  • “Silver & gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you; In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
  • And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them walking, leaping and praising God.
  • And all the people saw him walking and praising God.

Then They Knew it was he who sat begging alms at the gate Beautiful of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what happened to him.

The Name

  • Matthew 1:21 The greatest name ever given. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.
  • Matthew 18:20 Gathering together in the Name of Jesus brings His presence into that gathering. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.
  • Mark 16:17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

The Name

  1. The name of Jesus has power over evil, demons, sin and sickness. John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
  2. The name of Jesus is the key to being born again.
  3. The name of Jesus gives us the power of attorney. John 14:13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

The Name

The Key to the father sending the Holy Spirit is the name of Jesus. John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Peter takes advantage of the situation and preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Acts 3:11-18

One Of The Great Revelations On Revival Found In Acts 3:19-21

19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, 20 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, 21 whom Heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.

The Name

  1. John 15:16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
  2. John 15:21 But all these things they will do to you for My name sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.
  3. John 16:23 And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
  4. John 16:24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
  5. John 16:26 In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;
  6. John 20:31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
  7. Acts 5:40 And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
  8. Acts 5:41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.
  9. Acts 4:17 But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.
  10. Acts 4:18 So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
  11. Acts 4:30by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.
  12. Acts 4:10let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.
  13. Acts 4:12Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
  14. Acts 2:21And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.
  15. Acts 2:38Then Peter said to them, repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  16. Acts 3:6Then Peter said, silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.
  17. Acts 3:16And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

Acts 2 - A Healthy Church (notes)

Acts 2 - A Healthy Church

The Holy Spirit

  • Is the foundation of the church and was the reason it grew into a healthy church with a worldwide vision.
  • Was the reason that the early church grew so rapidly and why it expanded into the whole Roman Empire in just a couple of hundred years.
  • In the life of our church will make us a healthy church with a worldwide vision and a community impacting church.

Peter explains

  • To all those who were present the Gospel of Jesus Christ. How Jesus was attested by God to them by miracles, wonders and signs which God did through Him in their midst.
  • How God determined and foreknew how Jesus would be crucified and put to death.
  • How God would raise Him up, death not being able to keep Him down.

Peter Mentions

  • The prophecy of King David. David spoke by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. “you will not leave my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. The Body of Jesus did not decompose one bit.
  • How David saw Jesus rise from the dead and saw Jesus seated on the throne at the right hand of the Father and How Jesus would pour out the Holy Spirit in the last days.

Peter Talks About

  • How Jesus made His enemies His footstool.
  • How God made Jesus both Lord and Christ.
  • Under such a strong anointing that the people are cut to the heart and ask Peter and the other Apostles…”Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
  • About the power of repentances and the value of baptism in the church and the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • Revival or refreshing. Acts 2:38

  • Has communion regularly.
  • Values praise.

  • Sees people saved daily.
  • Knows the power of united fellowship.
  • Has communion regularly.
  • Values praise.
  • Will be given favor in the community.
  • Sees people saved daily.
  • Is a growing church. A sick church is a declining church. We all need to ask the Lord, “Are we a healthy church or are we in need of healing by Jesus Christ.”

What Makes A Church Sick?

  1. When programs, extracurricular activities and our internal ministries are more important than the lost and dying of our city.
  2. No passion to see lost people come to Jesus.
  3. When we are more concerned about our needs than those in our community.
  4. Doesn't have a vision of making disciples.

What Makes A Church Healthy:

  1. Reaching lost people is more important than our personal needs, pleasures, preference of worship style or traditions.
  2. A burning desire to see people saved.
  3. Revival is our great desire.
  4. Can speak into the culture with relevance, clarity and authority.
  5. Loves each other as Jesus commanded us to.
  6. Making disciples is a priority and healing hurts.

Health signs - A healthy church is…

  1. A loving church.
  2. A joyful church.
  3. A peaceful church.
  4. Forbears.
  5. Is kind.

There are sick churches and healthy churches

  • What determines if we will be a healthy church?
  • Our desire to be the church Jesus wants us to be. His church and the gates of hell will not be able stop us.
  • If we are sick, let’s repent, ask God to forgive us for our apathy and ask Him to put the fire back into our hearts.
