Revelation 21 - Heaven Is For Real (notes)

Revelation 21 - Heaven Is For Real

Events In The Last Part of Revelation:

  1. Praise for the victory over the whore (world wide religion).
  2. The Wedding Supper of the Lamb.
  3. The end of the Tribulation.
  4. The devil is bound & the Millennium.
  5. The renovated earth & the arrival of the New Jerusalem.

Something Happens Between Revelation 20 & 21:

  • There are prophecies that talk about new heavens and a new earth.
  • Isaiah 66:22 and 2 Peter 3:10-13 talks about God creating new heavens and a new earth.
  • God renovates the earth through fire and a new planet emerges for the coming of the New Jerusalem.

God Will Make

  • All things new. The first Heaven and the first earth had passed away and there will be no more sea.
  • For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth. Is. 65:17
  • Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new Heaven and a new earth, for the first Heaven and the first earth had disappeared and the sea was no more.

Renovation

2 Peter 3:10-13

(NASB)10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

John Sees

  • The tabernacle of God (God’s presence) actually living with us in person.
  • God wipes away every tear from our eyes.
  • Death is no more, nor sorrow, nor crying and no more pain.
  • The holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

John Hears A Loud Voice Saying…

  • Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men.
  • Behold. I make all things new.
  • Write, for these words are true and faithful.
  • I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.
  • I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.

Jesus Said

John 7:37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, from his innermost being will flow rivers of living water. 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, Whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

He who overcomes I will be his God and He shall be my son.

Look at what the Lord says about:

  1. The cowardly.
  2. The unbelieving.
  3. The abominable.
  4. The murderers (those who believe abortion is not murder and you sanction it, you will give an account to God some day).
  5. The sexually immoral, adulterers, fornicators, homosexuals, any sexual sinners will not be welcomed into the New Jerusalem.
  6. The sorcerers (drug abuse and incantations).
  7. The idolaters.
  8. The liars will have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.

John is carried away in the spirit to a great and high mountain:

  1. John sees the great city descending out of Heaven from God.
  2. It was full of the glory of God and her light was like a most precious stone, like jasper stone as clear as crystal. Jasper is a golden orange color stone. I would say that the city looks like transparent gold.
  3. The walls were great and high with 12 gates and an angel at each gate.
  4. The name of each tribe of Israel was written on each gate. The city is a cube of 1500 miles-wide, length, height with three gates on each side of the cube.

Description

  1. The city had twelve foundations and on each of them are the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
  2. The angel had a measuring stick or a gold measuring tape.
  3. The city is 1500 miles, not 15 miles, (Babylon was 14 miles in each direction and that was a big wall) imagine a cube city as long as it is from Dallas to New York.
  4. The wall is 216 feet thick of pure transparent gold-like golden glass but gold. The color is jasper or like a golden opal like color.

The foundations of the city are twelve gems:

  1. The first, jasper gold, like a diamond.
  2. The second, sapphire blue, hard like a diamond.
  3. The third, agate a deep golden red color.
  4. The fourth, emerald bright green.
  5. The fifth, onyx a reddish color.
  6. The sixth, sardius or carnelian a blood color stone.
  7. The seventh, goldstone is a transparent golden yellow stone.
  8. The eight, a sea green emerald brighter than the fourth stone.
  9. The ninth, topaz transparent greenish yellow.
  10. The tenth, green goldstone, a yellow pale green like aquamarine.
  11. The eleventh, zircon a violet colored gem.
  12. The twelfth, amethyst a purple transparent stone.

The Twelve Gates

  • Were made of twelve pearls, each gate was of one pearl. The street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
  • The Lord God and the Lamb-Jesus Christ are the temple. There is no need of sun or moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminates it. Its gates shall not be shut, there is no night there.
  • The nations bring their glory and honor into it.

Who Is Not Welcome In The City:

  1. But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie.
  2. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Heaven Is For Real

  • God’s Word is God’s promise to us. God can not lie. His Word is truth and He has a great inheritance for His children.
  • He is coming. Jesus prayed, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
  • Is not some fantasy but a real place that will come down to earth in the future.
  • Heaven is not for sinners but for the Godly, the pure in heart and those He has sanctified.
  • The most beautiful part of Heaven is the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Revelation 20 - The Millennium (notes)

The Millennium - Revelation 20

Angels

  • Played a big part in the unfolding plan of redemption that God had for man.
  • Also play a big part in the unfolding plan of God in the tribulation and after.

Events

  1. John sees an angel who came down from heaven with a key to the abyss with a great chain in his hand.
  2. He takes the devil and bound him for a thousand years in the abyss and shut it and sealed it.
  3. After the Millennium the devil is loosed for a short period of time.

Different Types of Books In The Word of God:

  1. The book of works.
  2. The book of life.
  3. A book God has written.
  4. A book of wanderings and tears.
  5. A book of the living.
  6. A book containing the names of faithful Jews.
  7. A book of remembrance.
  8. A book of idle words.
  9. A list of our works.

Five Resurrections

  1. The Old Testament saints who are raised when Jesus rose from the dead. (Matt. 27:52-53)
  2. Believers at the rapture. (I Thess. 4:13-18)
  3. The two witnesses in the tribulation who were killed by the antichrist. (Rev. 11:11-12)
  4. The tribulation saints who are killed during the tribulation. (Rev. 20:4-6)
  5. The unbelievers at the great white throne judgment. (Rev. 20:11-15)

Revelation 20

Contains some major doctrinal events that confirm these events in other portions of the Word.

  1. The binding of satan for a 1,000 years.
  2. The millennium.
  3. The great white throne judgment.

Each Group

Saved during the different dispensations of time has different roles to perform. The church is the bride of Christ and will enjoy the 1,000 year honeymoon upon the earth. (Rev. 20:4) They reign as rulers, kings, priests (I Peter 2:9 & Rev. 1:6). The 144,000 serve as bodyguards of the bride and the Lamb. (Rev. 14)

At That Time

The Millennial Temple is erected and the Gentiles serve. Under the reign of the antichrist there was little food and one had to take the mark of the beast to obtain food. The believers mentioned here had refused to take the mark had to suffer during that time, now with the Lord in their midst have changed. From this time on, the people of God from all dispensations enjoy the presence of God. Their days of suffering are over, tears wiped away and all memories of the past pain obliterated from their minds.

Events That Changed History 2 (notes)

Events - That Changed History 2

What Happened From the moment Jesus died to the resurrection:

He ascended into the lower parts of the earth. WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN. (Now this expression, He ascended, what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth?)

Jesus preached to the spirits in prison

I Peter 3:19 And in the Spirit He went and preached to the spirits in prison…

What Happened When Jesus Died:

  • He went first to the hell part of hades (The underworld), to show His victory over sin and death. Col. 2:15
  • In hell, Jesus preached to the spirits in prison who were in hell. I Peter 3:19
  • Then before leaving hell, Jesus took the keys of hell and of death from the devil. Rev. 1:18

In Luke 23:43

  • It doesn’t say how long those three events took, but certainly less than a day, because of Jesus’ promise to the dying thief - “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
  • Some believe that while He was in paradise, Jesus also preached the gospel to the O.T. saints, those who were saved but had little knowledge of God’s complete plan of redemption since they died before Jesus came to earth. This is based on I Peter 4:5-6 and Matthew 27:52-53.

While In The Garden

  • Jesus spent the remainder of the three days and three nights in paradise and then He ascended up on high and led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men. Eph. 4:8
  • Christians believe that when Jesus led captivity captive, He took paradise or at least all the saints in paradise (from the heart of the earth), up to Heaven so that paradise is now an empty compartment.

What Else Jesus Did From The Cross To The Throne:

He disarmed the army of hell. Col. 2:15 Amplified Bible [God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].

Sunday

Jesus rises from the dead. Matthew 28:1 The day after the Sabbath day was the first day of the week. At dawn on the first day, Mary Magdalene and another woman named Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 At that time there was a strong earthquake. An angel of the Lord came down from Heaven, went to the tomb, and rolled the stone away from the entrance. Then he sat on the stone.3 He was shining as bright as lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The soldiers guarding the tomb shook with fear because of the angel, and they became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, "Don't be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus, who has been crucified. 6 He is not here. He has risen from the dead as He said He would.

Events That Changed History (notes)

Events - That Changed History

Passion Week

The day of the month of the Crucifixion: Passover occurred during the month of Abid, the first Jewish month of the year. After the exile this month was called Nisan. This corresponds to March or April in our calendar. Passover lambs were slain on Nisan 14 between 3 and 5 PM and then eaten after sundown. (Ex. 12) Jesus died about 3 PM or the 9th hour.

The Sadducees

  • Who had authority over the temple, reckoned days from sunset.
  • Jesus and His disciples began their trip to Jerusalem from Galilee. They traveled south on the eastern side of the Jordan River. They traveled through the city of Jericho where Zaccheus met Jesus. On Friday they then arrived at Bethany, a little village just east of Jerusalem.
  • Friday evening - Six days before the Passover, Mary anoints Jesus feet with costly perfume. (Jn. 12:2-11)

Saturday Jesus keeps the Sabbath in the traditional fashion with His friends.

Sunday The triumphal entry.

Monday Cleansing of the Temple.

Tuesday The Day of Controversy & teaching Parables.

Wednesday The Silent day. A day of rest with friends.

Thursday Preparation & Passover in the Evening.

On Thursday

  • Preparation is made for the Passover. Judas may have also utilized this time for his betrayal.
  • The Passover is celebrated on Thursday evening. At the end of the Jewish feast, Jesus institutes the Last Supper.
  • The Last Supper is followed by the Upper Room Discourse.
  • Sometime in the evening, after the Passover, Jesus and His disciples leave the Upper Room and go to Gethsemane, a place near the Mt. of Olives where it was a custom for Jesus to Pray.

While In The Garden

  • Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested by the temple guards.
  • The trials begin. Before dawn Jesus is tried twice before Annas and then Caiaphas. Everything about these trials is illegal.
  • Friday. Trials, Crucifixion, Death and Burial.
  • Jesus' third trial is held early before the Sanhedrin.
  • Jesus is taken before Pilate (the 4th trial) where He is found innocent. He is taken to Herod who finds Him innocent then back to Pilate who again finds Him innocent, but relents after pressure.

About 9:00 AM

  • Jesus is crucified on a hill called The Skull outside the city. This is likely the site where God commanded Abraham to sacrifice Isaac.
  • At noon, the sky becomes dark. During that time Jesus experienced hell for us. Hell is to be utterly forsaken by God.
  • At 3 PM Jesus utters the most important words to believers when He cries with a loud voice: “It is finished”. The phrase literally means Paid in full. The sinless Son of God became sin for us.
  • Jesus gives up His life and fulfills the typology of the Passover Lamb at exactly the same time lambs were killed in the Temple. The veil is rent in the Temple. Jesus is on the cross for six hours.

Saturday

  • Jesus keeps the Sabbath in the traditional fashion.
  • There are different views on when Jesus was crucified. The Wednesday view, Thursday and the traditional view on Friday, which is held by most Biblical scholars.

Jesus

  • Was in the tomb part of Friday, all day Saturday, and a part of Sunday.
  • Died somewhere between 26 & 36 A.D. If we settle that He died on Friday, then by astronomical calculation we know that in the years 30 and 33 A.D. Friday occurred on Nisan 14. Of late the 30 A.D. date would make Jesus about 30 when He began His ministry and 33 at His death.
  • Is laid in Joseph’s tomb before the Sabbath began at sunset, or around 6:00 PM.
  • Saturday. Jesus’ body lies in the tomb. After 6:00 PM the Sabbath is over and His body is treated with spices.

Revelation 19 - Events in Heaven (notes)

Revelation 19 - Events in Heaven

Chapter 19 Deals with a series of events in Heaven that affect the final things in Revelation.

  1. The Judgment Seat of Christ.
  2. The Lamb’s Marriage Supper.
  3. The Doom of the Beast & False Prophet.
  4. The Second Coming of Christ.

The Scriptures Mention 7 Judgments That span from the cross of Christ to the beginning of the eternal state.

  1. The judgment Seat of Christ.
  2. The believer himself.
  3. The believer’s work.
  4. The nations.
  5. The nation of Israel.
  6. The fallen angels.
  7. The Great White Throne Judgment.

The Bema Seat

2 Corinthians 5:10: "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

The Judgment Seat

Was a raised place mounted by steps; a platform, tribune, used of the official seat of a judge. The Bema was also used to denote a raised stand or platform in Grecian games to award the winning contestants. For many, it will be a day of reward and honor; yet there will be those present who will also suffer loss. (2 John 1:8)

When Will The Bema Seat Happen?

"Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall every man have praise of God" (1 Cor. 4:5)

The judgment Seat of Christ will take place at the rapture of the church. (I Thess. 4:17)

A Time of Accountability

“Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall every man have praise of God.” (1 Cor. 4:5)

The 5 Crowns of the Believers:

The Crown of Life

The first crown is required for entrance into Heaven. The "crown of life" is referred to in the following Scriptures:

James 1:12 (KJV) Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him.

Rev 2:10 (KJV) Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Rev 3:11 (KJV) Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

The Incorruptible Crown

Mentioned in 1 Corinthians 9:25, this reward is given for attaining mastery over the "old man"--the person we were before being saved--and it awaits each of us who lives for the Lord with singleness of purpose. We are to live daily with the goal in mind.

The Crown of Rejoicing

This is a special reward for soul winners. 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20 affirms that souls won for Jesus will make us worthy of this crown. What an award must await the Apostle Paul, not only because of the Thessalonians he won to the Lord but also for the host of others he led to Calvary as well!

The Crown of Righteousness

In 2 Timothy 4:8, Paul wrote to Timothy, “Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will award me on that day and not only me but also to all who have longed for His appearing."

The Crown of Glory:

This seems to be a special reward for the faithful Pastor who willingly feeds his flock week after week. The Apostle Peter discussed the reward in 1 Peter 5:2-4,"Be Shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve, not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that never will fade away."
