Colossians - Fullness In Christ (notes)

Colossians - Fullness In Christ

Paul Addressed Issues in the church that affect believers today.

Paul Addressed:

  • False teaching in the church.
  • Deception in the church.
  • Fine sounding arguments.

Even Though

  • Paul did not start the Colossian church he had great love for them and wanted to be there to help them deal with the problems in the church.

Paul Tells the Church

  • To continue to grow by the teaching that she had been given by the teaching of the Word of God.
  • To live in Him.
  • To understand the power of having a root system deep in the Lord.

Paul Talks

  • About being built up in Christ or well constructed upon Him or continually built up in Him.
  • About becoming increasingly more confirmed & established in the faith, just as you were taught.

What Demonstrates the fact that I am deeply rooted in Christ?

  • I apply what I know. If I can just apply the revelation that Jesus has been given me I will be a powerful believer.

When A Tree

  • Has a deep root system the roots go down and get the needed moister it needs to grow and bear good fruit.
  • John 15 talks about the importance of staying connected to the vine.

When A Church

  • Is connected to Jesus it will bear much fruit. First the fruit of the Spirit then when the people love each other as Christ loves the church the church multiplies.
  • Is connected to Jesus the believers there will be connected to each other. People will not do their own thing but will work together to fulfill the vision God has given the leader.
  • Is connected to Jesus it will be strengthened in the faith and overflow with praise & thanks to God.

Paul Talked About

  • The false teaching that was circulating around the church. It was an early form of Gnosticism that taught that Jesus was not really the God man but some spirit (an ascended master). It is still around today. Some teach that Jesus is the first creation of God or the brother of Lucifer.

In Jesus

  • All the fullness of deity lives in bodily form and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is head over every power and authority.

Fullness In Christ

  • For the believer means the fullness of the Holy Spirit that was given to the church on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2. Peter stood and talks about the prophet Joel

On The Day Of Pentecost

  • The Glory of The Lord was manifested in the church.
  • (Exodus 16:7-10, Exodus 24:16, Exodus 40:34-35, Leviticus 9:23, Numbers 14:21, Isaiah 40:5, Isaiah 59:19, Isaiah 60:1-2, Haggai 2:7)

John Said of JESUS

  • That He would baptize people with the Holy Spirit and fire. The fire is the glory of the Lord that Moses saw, that Isaiah talked about that Ezekiel saw & Haggai predicted would fill the temple in the last days.

God Is A God of Order

  • In revival God sets things straight in the church. When we live by the Spirit we will not give in to the flesh.
  • Some think that God causes disorder during revival but when the Glory of the Lord is manifested, God will put order back into our lives. Every area of our lives that is messed up will be made right.

The Spirit & The Bride

  • Say, come. And let him that hears say, come. And let him that is thirsty come and take the water of life freely.
  • Drink from the living water and ask Jesus to release the fountain from within you.

The Church Gets Stale

  • And sometimes dies then the people of God cry out and God hears and sends the rain, rivers flow in the desert and things start to bloom and fruit comes forth and a great harvest of souls comes into the Kingdom and the church comes alive again.

The Wind of The Spirit

  • Is blowing throughout the earth in this hour and God is looking for people who have a heart for Him and for revival.
  • Lets pray that we will not miss what God is doing right now.
  • The glory of the Lord is being manifested and don’t want to miss it.

Mothers - Who Birth Revival (notes)

Mothers - Who Birth Revival

Mother’s Day

  • Is a day when we honor our moms and all they do because of their love for us.

God

  • Has given moms great influence. By their touch and their prayers and instruction of their children moms can touch a generation for generations to come.

Revelation

  • Everything mothers go through when expecting a child is a parallel of what the church goes through to birth revival.

Principle

  • Mother’s Day is about life. Through mothers life is perpetuated from generation to generation.
  • Moms know the sacrifice, the waiting, the pain of giving birth.

Revelation

  • We can learn from this in praying for revival. America needs the Lord and the only way America will be saved is through the prayers of the saints. We can birth a mighty move of God through prayer.

Lets Look At Hannah The Mother of Samuel Today. (I Samuel 1:1-26)

Principles

  • Hannah believed God and prayed and God heard her cry. Mom, God hears your prayers for your children.
  • Imagine what Hannah went through in the waiting process to get pregnant?
  • She had to put up with scorn and shame but God heard her.

Hannah

  1. Prays to God for a child.
  2. God answers.
  3. She dedicates him to God.
  4. Gives her first born son to God to take care of & to use.

Mom

  • Pray for your children
  • Watch God answer
  • Dedicate them to God
  • Give them to God

We Can Apply These Principles To Revival:

  1. Pray for it.
  2. Watch God answer.
  3. Dedicate our spiritual children to Him.
  4. Give the move to God (don’t try to mother the move of God).

God Answered

  • The travail and anguish of Hannah by granting her the blessing of becoming pregnant.
  • As we pray for workers allow God to send them forth into the harvest.
  • Pray that God wakes us up from sleep so He can do a mighty work.

The Greatest Harvest for Moms Is Her Children

  • God wants to use your children to shake the world for Jesus.
  • Teach them the principles of faith, the Bible stories that will cause their faith to grow.
  • Watch them do mighty things for God.

Colossians - Hidden Treasure (notes)

Colossians - Hidden Treasure

Paul addressed some very important issues that the church in any generation needs to look at.

Paul Addressed:

  • False teaching in the church.
  • Discord in the church.
  • Sin in the church.
  • Rebellion in the church.
  • The purpose of the church.

Apathy

  • Hurts the church because it robs the church of current revelation.

When The Church

Does not have spiritual insight the church is in the dark (which means without revelation of the Word).

  • Anyone can have a Bible but not everyone has revelation.

Struggle

  • Is part of the Christian life.
  • Paul said we don’t fight against flesh and blood but against forces of darkness.
  • Is with the flesh and is with the world.

The Purpose of Paul

  • Was that the church be encouraged in heart and united in love so that the church might have the full riches of complete understanding in order that the church may know the Mystery of God.

We Need:

  • The Spirit of wisdom and revelation to understand the mystery of God that is found in Christ--in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom & knowledge.

The Purpose

  • Of the Spirit of Wisdom & revelation is so we might get to know God more intimately.

Jeremiah 33:3

  • Great & unsearchable things in the O.T. is the same meaning as the Word Mystery in the N.T.

When We Seek God

  • We will be given a fresh revelation of Jesus Christ.
  • We will then be given insight into the mysteries of God.

The Treasures Are:

  • Wisdom: Sophia (Greek) is skill in the affairs of life, wise management as shown in forming the best plans and selecting the best means including sound judgment.
  • Knowledge: Ghosis (Greek) to know with the spirit of man. Intuition, conscience. This is why we must be born of the Spirit. (John 3) This is the part of man that connects with God.

Revelation

  • Enlarges the arena that our faith can function in.
  • Deception shrinks our area of faith.

(Matthew 13:10-11)

Revelation Is

  • Locked up in the realm the Bible calls mystery. A mystery cannot be hunted down and trapped like an animal. It must be revealed by the Holy Spirit.
  • Given to those who hunger for Him and He will reveal the mystery.

Jesus Said:

  • He concealed truth in parables so it remained a mystery to some, but not to others.
  • He doesn’t take pearls of revelation and freely throw them out to anybody. We must hunger for it, dig for it, ask, seek, and knock.

God Is A God of Order

  • In revival God sets things straight in the church. When we live by the Spirit we will not give in to the flesh. We will overcome the flesh, the devil and the world when we live by the Spirit.

  • Let’s pray that we will not miss what God is doing right now.
  • The glory of the Lord is being manifested and don’t want to miss it.
